Located in the heart of bustling downtown Ambler, Dettera presents sophisticated dining in the center of Philadelphia's northwestern suburbs. Executive Chef Jeffrey Power's New American cuisine pairs perfectly with Dettera's premier collection of new and old world wine selections.

Chef Power develops his menus using the freshest, all-natural meats, fish, fowl and seasonal produce available. His inspired dishes are composed with a focus on sustainability and locally farmed ingredients, and the use of our own organic garden. His creativity and never-ending desire to continue growing has led Chef Power to where he is now. He takes great pride in developing unique dishes with intensely flavorful sauces and reductions that are often the centerpiece of his creations.

A passionate wine lover, Developer/Owner Frank Lutter worked tirelessly to develop one of the most revered wine programs in the region. With an offering of over 40 wines by the glass and exceeding 200 by the bottle, Dettera's wine collection represents regions and varietals from around the world, specifically chosen with flavor profiles to compliment Chef Power's inspired cuisine. This commitment to artisan wine provides Dining Room Manager, Kevin Yost, and Chef Power the ability to create ethereal tasting menus with wine pairings that are both inspired and unmatched.

From casual dining in our alfresco wine lounge to the lively first floor dining room featuring a dramatic curved black granite bar and oversized round banquettes, Dettera is the perfect destination for Philadelphia-area food lovers.

The more intimate second floor features soaring windows overlooking Ambler's Main Street and intimate dining tables spaciously placed alongside the open view of the large bar area below.  The fireplace, lounge area, and bar in the back create the perfect space to host any number of Private Events, from Wedding Rehearsals to Birthday Parties to corporate functions such as Retirement Parties or Business Luncheons.

 

OUR HISTORY

Dettera started as the vision of owner Frank Lutter. Lutter, a commercial contractor/developer, purchased the property in 2008. As a lifelong wine and food lover, Lutter eventually decided to take the unique space and transform it into a high-end Restaurant & Wine Bar.

Lutter was looking for a Center City dining experience in historic Ambler. During the renovation phase of Dettera, Lutter's crew uncovered the original granite nameplate in the building’s exterior. This nameplate, which had been hidden for decades in the front facade, identified the building’s original owner – Mathias Dettera, a grain and seed wholesaler in the early 1900s. This signature stone became the inspiration for the restaurant’s name and now rests elegantly within the mahogany paneling above the main bar.

Today, Dettera is an established member of Ambler’s thriving restaurant scene.  With its seasonally-driven cuisine and specialty cocktails, and an ever-changing wine list, there is always something exciting waiting for you.  To further enhance your experience, the goal is always to provide seamless service in a relaxed atmosphere, which can be enjoyed by our casual bar or in a more romantic setting by either of the indoor or outdoor fireplaces.
